Mojito Des Mottes, and the best month in the book

August is twenty four points up, which is the best month I've had, and the bet everyone will remember is Mojito Des Mottes at Newton Abbot on the twenty second. Comeback bet, half a point, 9.69 on the exchange. He'd fallen last time while going well, he was back inside sixty days, and when I looked in the morning the price was under my limit. By the off it was nearly ten, which is the exchange for you, and he won.

That one bet made over four points. I'm going to say the boring thing now, which is that the month wasn't made by him. It was made at Catterick.

Stellar Masterpiece won there on the seventeenth at 6.13. Lanarra won there on the twenty sixth at 6.18. Both were fancied horses, not favourites, both had a bad figure at the end of the line that the rest of the line explained, and both were at prices that made no sense for what they'd done. Add the first of August, three bets and three winners at Doncaster and Newmarket, and the place bets landing most days, and the month was already very good before Newton Abbot. All three were on the members' card before racing.

I keep going on about Catterick and Doncaster and I'll keep going on about them. Small fields, honest ground, a thin market on weekdays, and the big yards sending horses up that are ready. The north pays, and nobody at Sandown on a Saturday seems to have noticed.

The comeback bets had eight runners in the month, five of them won, and Mojito was the one that landed big. It's still a small pot. Since April they've been comfortably ahead, which is roughly what the paper said they'd do. I'll keep them at half a point and I'll keep telling you how they go.

The bank is at its highest again and the point stays at £150. A month like this is the one that makes people want to double up, and the only thing I'd say is what I said in July last year. The winners came from the same questions as the losers. Next month the answers will be ordinary again. Two weeks is £5, and the winter list starts next month.

PS: Goblet Of Fire placed at Newmarket the same afternoon as Mojito, at 1.71, for a few pence. That's the pair of them. The quiet one and the loud one.

See exactly what I do for two weeks.
For only £5.

Every bet I make, by email each racing morning, with the stake and my line on why. Pay £5 today, then £49 on day 15 for the winter pass to 31 March.

If your first month on the £49 loses, I refund it. Nothing renews after 31 March. Full details.
